alphadidact® Digital networks 19 microscopes

Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (NCU) is one of the largest universities in Poland with 16 faculties – including three medical faculties at the Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz. In June 2020, the Faculty of Biological and Veterinary Sciences decided in a Europe-wide tender to implement the alphadidact® Digital multimedia system from EBS.

Copernicus Torun Microscopy Lab Overview

Challenge

19 Leica microscopes (1 for the lecturer, 18 for students) were to be networked multimedia-wise. The live work of a student at the microscope was to be transmitted latency-free to all connected screens – in high resolution and at the touch of a button.

Solution

EBS technology enables image transmission from the digital microscope cameras to all monitors as well as to projectors and large-format displays. Any workstation can act as a signal source; every participant can become a presenter.

Results

Students are trained at all workstations simultaneously and follow presentations by lecturers and fellow students in real time. Even in the back rows, specimens can be recognised in detail.
