Digitising dental education at HIU, Vietnam
The Hong Bang International University (HIU) in Vietnam is modernising its dental education with digital systems. Together with MEDENT, a leading provider of dental technology and system partner of Dentsply Sirona and EBS, the Sim Modular system and EBS alphadidact® Digital were introduced – for practice-oriented training in line with international standards.
Challenge
The previous training setup at HIU faced several challenges:
- Limited options for simulating complex treatments
- Lack of interaction between lecturers and students
- Difficult individual monitoring of learning progress
- High material consumption with corresponding costs
A technological solution was needed that combines digital teaching methods with efficient practical application.
Solution
MEDENT relied on two coordinated systems:
Sim Modular – A modular training simulation system for realistic treatment workflows. Students put theoretical knowledge directly into simulated practice. For lecturers, the simulations improve teaching quality and enable lesson sequences to be saved for review. For the university: automated, low-maintenance system, compatible with existing infrastructure, 3-year international warranty.
EBS alphadidact® Digital – The multimedia training system developed by EBS Euchner Büro- und Schulsysteme GmbH enables direct communication between lecturers and individual students. Individual feedback, secure data transmission, lecture recording and multimedia learning support the understanding of complex content.
Results
The introduction of both systems led to noticeable improvements:
- Higher learning efficiency through practice-oriented simulations and personal support
- Faster transfer of theoretical content into practical application
- Cost savings through reduced material consumption
- Greater technical precision thanks to simulation-based training before working on real patients
With the successful implementation, HIU is positioning itself as a digital pioneer in dental education in Vietnam.
