The most advanced dental simulation lab in Qatar
In September 2021, the College of Dentistry at Qatar University opened the country's most advanced dental simulation lab. 32 simulation stations are used to train dental students. The simulation units from Dentsply Sirona are networked with the alphadidact® Digital multimedia system from EBS.

Challenge
Qatar University had several requirements: the training lab had to be divisible into two independent groups with one lecturer and 16 students each – or switchable at the touch of a button to operation with one lecturer and 32 students. In addition, every student should be able to connect their own laptop (BYOD). Signal transmission from CEREC CAD systems, laptops and microscope cameras was to be latency-free.
Solution
The alphadidact® Digital multimedia system is controlled via two EBS touchscreens – one control unit per training group. At the touch of a button, master mode can be activated to give access to all 32 workstations. An automatic digital EBS switch gives students access to either their laptop signal or the CEREC CAD signal. The technology enables latency-free signal transmission to all monitors and two large-format displays.

The live work of a student at the microscope is transmitted latency-free and at the touch of a button to all connected screens.

Results
Any workstation can act as a signal source; every participant can become a presenter. Students follow presentations by lecturers and fellow students in real time. Even in the back rows, the training content is displayed in optimum quality.
