EIS training labs at four VW sites

In January 2020, the first EIS lab was opened at the Volkswagen plant in Salzgitter. EIS stands for the training occupation “Elektroniker/-in für Informations- und Systemtechnik” (electronics technician for information and systems technology) – a profession that combines electronics and IT technology. From 2020 to 2024, further labs at the Braunschweig, Emden, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg sites were equipped with alphadidact® Digital systems.

Challenge

Apprentices learn to assemble, install and configure Industry 4.0 systems as well as to develop electronic components. For training, VW needed fully equipped lab benches that are networked with each other. Screen content should be transferable from any workstation to any other workstation. In addition, various signal sources – document cameras, microscopes, laptops, tablets, smartphones – should be able to be transmitted simultaneously to all monitors and an interactive whiteboard.

Solution

Fully equipped lab benches are networked via the EBS alphadidact® Digital multimedia system. Two EBS 7-inch touchscreens control transmission between the 1 + 12 dual-monitor workstations. Signal transmission from visualiser, PCs and thin clients is in high digital native resolution. An integrated EBS 4×4 matrix enables simultaneous transmission of different signal sources to all monitors and the interactive whiteboard.

Operation is by push button. The system is administration-free, reliable in operation and independent of the hardware and software used in the lab.

Results

In the modern labs, Industry 4.0 is actively lived – people communicate digitally with electronics, sensors, robotics and production systems.
